The 2012 Nexus 7 suffered with the initial software releases from a lack of TRIM support in daily use, which led to very poor flash performance, especially on the 8GB version. The iPad will be smoother by an order of magnitude in the long run and the battery will last 2 days of heavy use. The touchscreen will have input lag and stop responding properly when the charger is plugged in, which will be most of the time because the battery will go dead.

The entire OS will start lagging once you install apps. Has anyone else had these experiences? Is there anything that can be done about them if so? I'm so tempted to buy the tablet, but I have a feeling these two small issues will irk me and give a bad UX.

Secondly, and perhaps I'm making this up, the scrolling in a webpage just doesn't feel as smooth as iOS. I tried firefox and seemed to have the same problem. Firstly slideshows etc don't seem to be smooth, despite an iPad 2 with inferior hardware running the same slideshows very smoothly. I had a play with the one at work today, and there were a few things that started to bug me, all to do with Chrome.

I have since also looked more into Android and am tempted to make the change from iOS completely, so I'm considering the Nexus 7 as a gateway drug to see if I like the experience. Anyway at work (I'm a web developer) we've had a load of testing devices brought in, including the new Nexus 7, and once I started playing with it, I thought this could be the tablet for me - a good size, portable and a good price. I've been an iOS guy since 2009 when I got my first iPhone (3G) - I've had the 3G, 4 and now 5 and for a week an iPad 2, but returned it as I didn't get on with it (too big for my tastes).
