Hiding and showing shares should be automatic when I change folder access through the Windows Home Server "Network Shares" Console. I would like to hide shares from users that do not have access to those shares. This functionality would be hugely useful to me. What we need is Access Based Enumeration at the share level. Please vote for this feature if you want Microsoft to spend time on it. It's issue #451391 and it's labeled "Access Based Enumeration at the Share Level". I have created a feature suggestion ticket on. I believe this functionality would add a lot to the WHS end user's experience by uncluttering their work space, avoiding confusion from "access denied" attempts, and allowing the administrator to taylor each user's WHS file sharing functionality. Finally, to drive my point home, I could create archival folders like "College Papers", dump all of my files from college in there, deny access to everybody, and essentially have that folder hidden from the network until I allow myself access through the Windows Home Server "Network Shares" console.

Also, my Xbox only needs to see the "Pictures", "Videos", and "Music" folders. I would like to be able to deny her access to shares she never uses to unclutter her "My Network Places" folder. Right now, when she goes to "My Network Places", she sees every share on the server. Furthermore, my wife would be happy if she did not have to shuffle through all the shares she doesn't need. Guests on my network should not see any Homeserver shares. He should not even see my shares labeled "Finances", "House Projects", "Vacation plans that do not include my Brother-in-law", etc.

When my Brother-in-law comes over, I only give him READ access to my "Music" share.
