It also seems that the CPU meter on the transport varies. After that it disappears.cannot figure it out.maybe the computer is still doing something in the background after the project launches. After that 's happened several other times only after cold boots and first couple of instances of playback. I copied some of the demo projects onto my system HD and tried to run them through the built-in audio and got an audio overload message within 3 secs of playback.

AUDIO OVERLOAD 2.1 PRO

I just bought a new MacBook Pro 17" w/ 4GB Ram AND the 7200 rpm HD and installed Logic 8 on this factory fresh laptop. I'll see if my Apple buddy can shed some light on this.

I was under the impression that it would all run fine on a 5400rpm drive, but it would run better (more tracks, plugs) with a 7200rpm drive.Īs it is, I get the CoreAudio overloads with 3 midi tracks - each playing an exs instrument (drums, keys, bass) - not too much polyphony going on.Īlso, I had just replaced my 100GB 7200 drive with a 250GB 5400rpm drive - I thought I was being clever. This way, folks who have MacbookPro's can order their system correctly. If Logic 8 requires a 7200 rpm drive to run properly, then they should state this on the specs page. I'd love to get an "official" answer from Apple on this one. A lot of which is in the fine print of products (specifications listing, etc).īesides the obvious spec's like ram and hard drive speed and cache, what other examples would you include? There are always other specs that will play a part, and a lot of them are what is overlooked by your every day purchaser of hardware. There are several other components that need to be working at the same 'pace' as the processor or else you will experience 'bumps'ĭavid's analogy references the fact that faster isn't always better.

Not sure if this analogy makes sense to me- If you have more/faster processing power, shouldn't your system run without crashing/overloading as much? granted everything is configured properly.įaster processing speed only does that: process. If you want power, be ready for bumps in the road. A Ferrari doesn't run smoother than a volkswagen, far from it, in fact it is quite the opposite. That's a huge misconception in the computer world to think that a more powerful system will run smoother.
